Bachelor of Commerce, Major Finance

Why I Joined the Program

I applied for the Landgate Graduate Program as it offered a variety of training and development opportunities, rotations throughout the agency, and career advancement as part of an evolving agency.

Landgate appealed to me as I wanted to work in the public sector, but also work for an agency which provides opportunity to its employees. The flexible work/life balance arrangements at Landgate are also attractive, and have enabled me to fit my working hours around other commitments. The values Landgate represents were also encouraging, particularly as Landgate seeks to support the community it is part of, and get the best out of its employees.

During the program, I have played a role in making Landgate an increasingly sustainable organisation. This has been rewarding, and has flowed through to other projects. I have also been part of a project team reviewing business processes within Landgate, and been given the opportunity to act in a position at a higher level.

The training and development, team building activities and achievements in work I have performed have been the most rewarding aspects so far. I am also fortunate enough to be part of a close knit group of graduates.

My goal at Landgate is to play a significant role in the development of the agency, and in the short term, achieve a higher level position at the end of the graduate program.

Why I Joined the Program

I was intrigued by the idea of rotating throughout the agency; this suited my way of learning and appealed to my thirst to be exposed to as much as possible. I was also enticed by the variety of training opportunities that were offered.

Landgate’s primary business would allow me to develop the skills and knowledge I had gained in the degree I had undertaken at university. Aligned with Landgate’s flexible working arrangements and values which reflected my own beliefs, I was impressed with Landgate as an agency.

I have been positioned in the Valuation Services branch at Mount Street, Perth. I have been exposed to challenging work in the areas of valuation, research, regulation and finance. These areas have complemented my university studies and opened many doorways to a promising career.

I have developed unique friendships with my fellow graduates, I regularly receive positive and motivating feedback from management and I am able to engage in training courses that develop and increase my skills base.

I am motivated to become a part of Landgate’s progression into the future and the graduate program has offered a fantastic platform for this to begin.

Why I Joined the Program

My first job after graduating was as a GIS officer in local government where I had the experience that many graduates have of being thrown in at the deep end. The graduate program at Landgate offered a strong network of mentors and colleagues to aid in my development.

Landgate offered a job where it was clear that I would be helped to develop and diversify my spatial skills.

On the program there are opportunities and facilities available to you that provide for an amazing first year at work. Being a graduate at Landgate your name is put out there by your managers and the graduate program coordinator. As a result I have been involved in several projects, courses and activities. Everyone knows who you are as a graduate and it is a great opportunity to build a good reputation.

The program encourages graduates to build strong networks with each other and provides excellent opportunities to do so. Most of the graduates from my year still work at Landgate and we meet up regularly to keep in touch.

The graduate program gave me a great boost and I doubt I would have achieved so much in my first year if it hadn’t been for the program. Having had the opportunity to get to know people all around the building I now use those networks almost everyday.
